gratitude list

Gratitude List 07.04.21

It’s been a while since I shared my #gr8ful list here ━ now, accompanied by my a-glass-on-Wednesday-night wine, seems as good a time as any.

Today I am grateful…

That I work in the CBD area which at times makes me feel like I am in the American TV shows I grew up watching. That I cultivate nurturing hobbies and for having the chance (and my sensibility) to nurture them. For stand-up comedians. For the sight of stacked books, hanging house plants, flying flock of birds and easy-to-read tarot spread. For life-defining split-second moments. For having white teeth and a happy womb. For relatable personal blogs. For an endless supply of funny stories and sleepy tea. For the come back of some parts of the old normal. For having a zest for life. For keep discovering more and more things, I love as I grow older, like chai. For film photography Instagram accounts and inspiring audiobooks. That I have strong female friends.

I am reading Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies by Tara Schuster. Also, loving and vowing to follow her every single advise from every single chapter.

One of it is to write a gratitude list. Something I am not at all new to.

I have been doing it on and off since reading The Secret and discussing it obsessively with Jik throughout 2006-08. Then continuing the practice with the Five Minute Journal. But for some reason (read: Covid) I haven’t been doing it for the most part of this year. I dropped it a few weeks into the pandemic as I was feeling utterly bitter about things in general.

Today though, reading that particular chapter, titled “Fake Gratitude Until You Feel Gratitude” — and relating so much with what she wrote in there — I want to reinstate the habit.

I made a few rules for myself: to commit to writing 8 points. It doesn’t matter when, where, how or on what I write it — as long as I write it. I’ll put a reminder to write in the morning and at night (two reminders because I am inherently lazy). And lastly, I will share my practice with you here or on the social media every now and then, to keep myself accountable and hopefully inspire you to give it a try.

Here is my #gr8ful list for today:

  • The magic of Moleskin journals.
  • Extraordinary Oracle — It’s my birthday gift from Jik which arrived yesterday all the way from US. I can’t wait to work with it.
  • The shared-joy of the long weekend.
  • Tall Timber’s Shaksuka and coffee combo.
  • Rainy weekend mornings — as if I need yet another reason to stay in bed reading.
  • Painting-drinking-bitching zoom date with Jik.
  • This blog and that blog.
  • Puppies picture on Kleenex box.

Let’s do #gr8ful together. Or don’t. It’s up to you. Either way I hope you find your ways and reasons to be grateful daily.

17 Things in 2017

It turned out, despite being quite a downer year, I have a lot of things to be grateful for in 2017.

These are 17 things I am grateful for in 2017:

  • Discovering True Crime podcasts and my love and addiction for it.
  • The surfer guy in Sunshine Coast who saved our lives. I didn’t get his name, but he will forever be on my gratitude list.
  • Text from Pedro saying “You deserve more than this” on my shittiest day.
  • All the kind gestures and words, including compliments. However small. Please keep it coming Universe!
  • My cousin who mixed me a drink the minute she saw tears in my eyes. I have the best sisters!
  • And best friends! Reliving Wala Wala night with my best friends.
  • Being extremely contented and incredibly happy on my birthday week. My 2017 birthday week was the happiest point of my life filled with Tazi trip and Jik’s visit. Too bad the high was smashed soon after with an unexpected depression.
  • Moving to a new department at work, which came with an admirable manager and leaving work on-time. I have a life after work now!
  • When Fafa offered to buy me another ticket to come back to Melbourne a day earlier during my depression period above, I was so touched that it made me cry even more that day.
  • Utilizing various kitchenware. I am an adult now!
  • Experiencing Sakura with Fafa and Uluru with Jik. Both were magical moments!
  • Choosing myself and slowly healing. It’s still work in progress but I got me!
  • Witches, friends and the covenant.
  • Every single trip I took this year, impromptu or otherwise.
  • Hyggelig moments at the apartment, which we turned into a home.
  • Crossing things off of my Wanderlist.
  • Even though this took a little longer than I expected, I finally feel at home in Melbourne.
